Making the most of the outdoors

I like many people enjoy being outdoors. This is a time to feel better in the fresh air and make sure that my children have the freedom to explore the world, or at least a chunk of it. Having no backyard ourselves has made this a struggle living at our apartment; however, when we are some place with a way to see the outdoors we tend to make the most of it.

I encourage my children to explore their imagination and this week they have really started to open up. With my parents large sandbox my boys are creating everything from dugouts to castles. The boys have been so creative this week making sure to keep up with the adventures their aunts and uncles have set forth.

During the evening the boys gathered their swords to come save their aunt (the princess) from dragons (bugs). They have enjoyed tackling one fiction story after the other from the three little pigs to made up non sense. It has been a joy to endure their little minds with what they can accomplish.

The temperatures have been nice enough to allow them to be outside the past few days and that is where my two year old has thrived. He has struggled with being able to take naps the past few days and with him running around and being in the fresh air he has accomplished more then I can even remember. His naps are actually happening because he is so exhausted from playing in the morning air and then he goes straight to sleep after bath time because he is exhausted from hanging out in the afternoon sun.

The outdoors are a great tool for anyone with children or not. Whether you have some sort of make believe life going on or you are playing sports in your backyard. I have yet to see my children not find something to do in the outdoors and that is what is great about the imagination in the outdoors.
